Cold stress in plants: Strategies to improve cold tolerance in forage species

چکیده

Cold stress (CS) affects the survivability, geographical distribution, and yield stability of crops. Suitable management agronomic practices can minimize crop losses associated with cooler environments. However, alone can't support plants adequately to withstand harsh cold. Therefore, exploring cold stress-responsive factors such as genetic, epigenetic, physiological, cellular is crucial. This report discusses on effect, signal perception, transduction, gene expression, molecular phenomena in plants. Three acclimation response pathways: Ca2+ mediated ICE1- CBF/ DREB1, hormonal, reactive oxygen species (ROS), are elucidated. Also, this summarizes latest research work genetics genomics forage from perspectives tolerance improvement. In several instances, our hypotheses have been supported by a recent output genetic analysis experiment alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) tolerance. We further review importance high-throughput phenomics for improvement recommended implementing widely recognized techniques genomic selection (GS) genome-wide association studies (GWAS) develop climate-resilient cultivars. The transgenics genome-edited cold-tolerant cultivars low or no penalty must be goals future research.

Engineering Cold Stress Tolerance in Crop Plants

Plants respond with changes in their pattern of gene expression and protein products when exposed to low temperatures. Thus ability to adapt has an impact on the distribution and survival of the plant, and on crop yields. Many species of tropical or subtropical origin are injured or killed by non-freezing low temperatures, and exhibit various symptoms of chilling injury such as chlorosis, necro...

Evaluation of Cold Tolerance in Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) Using Stress Tolerance Indices

In order to study the response of 120 genotypes of rapeseed (including 100 hybrids and 20 parents) in terms of cold stress tolerance, an experiment was conducted in α-lattice design with two replications under normal (September) and late sowing (October) conditions during two years. Combined analysis of variance showed that genotypes were significantly different at 1% and there was a significan...

Cold Signaling and Cold Response in Plants

Plants are constantly exposed to a variety of environmental stresses. Freezing or extremely low temperature constitutes a key factor influencing plant growth, development and crop productivity. Plants have evolved a mechanism to enhance tolerance to freezing during exposure to periods of low, but non-freezing temperatures. This phenomenon is called cold acclimation. During cold acclimation, pla...
